April photo dump: haircut, luxury hotels, new pets, et al.

April has been pretty eventful for me. Here are some photos from my camera roll with a little story behind it.

April 2, 2021

Starting the month off at the beach! T and I went to Sheraton for a dip before the UAE heat comes. It’s actually hot already but it’s still bearable compared to the real summer heat that’s coming soon. I’ve experienced 50 degree Celsius here so swimming under 32 degrees is nothing.

Sheraton Abu Dhabi

It was a really nice experience. We went on a Friday (which is considered a weekend in the UAE; our weekend is Friday, Saturday) and as expected, there were quite a few people. We had margherita pizza for merienda then transferred to the pool after the beach closed at sunset.

One of the biggest achievements of my brand, Resin Art Co; aside from being featured in the local newspaper. Kilig!

Tania – the owner of Tania’s Teahouse & the sister of Hafsa, who wrote the newspaper article – reached out if I want to have my bookmarks sold at her pretty café in Dubai. It’s one of the top instagrammable cafés in the world, hello? Of course, I said yes!

However, due to Abu Dhabi’s strict COVID restrictions, I can’t visit the café personally. It’s a hassle leaving and coming back the Emirate for almost a year now. Sigh, I can’t wait for this pandemic to end.

April 8, 2021

My Dad came for a visit. He had an appointment somewhere but was advised to come back the next day, so we just went to the mall and had early dinner at Tony Roma’s after.

We also watched Mortal Kombat and boy, I wasn’t ready for it. I didn’t have any idea what the movie is all about! I mean.. I know it’s mortal kombat; I just didn’t expect it to be that gory. Whew! I was expecting something like.. I don’t know.. kung fu?

It was also the first time in a very long time that I craved for coffee. I rarely drink coffee. I can even count the days I had coffee in a year with only both of my hands. Maybe even one. It’s not a necessity for me. But for some reason I don’t know, I was craving for an iced mocha with one shot of espresso, topped with whipped cream for 3 days before that night so bad.

We went to the mall after Dad’s appointment because he wanted to buy fishes for his aquarium at home. He’s been addicted to them lately, he currently has 7 aquariums at his place.

April 10, 2021

Hung out with my previous colleagues whom I haven’t seen in more than a year! We still talk online, of course, but we never really hung out like this mostly because of conflicting schedules. And COVID, yes.

It was a good time! We did catch up on a lot of things – one being married and one having finally escape our old company. Haha. I’m still unemployed but best believe, leaving a place that drained my energy was one of the best things I have ever done.

We had lunch, spent hours at the mall’s fun park, roam around, then went for roller skating after. I learned how to ice skate last February so this was kinda fun for me since I already know how to balance. Yay!

T came for a visit. He lives in Dubai so we only see each other one or two weekends a month. Anyway, I wanted to go for a manicure pedicure that morning before we meet but phew, I went for a haircut and opted for a freaking bangs instead. Heartbroken ka ghorl?! (May update: I still have a love-hate relationship with my bangs. Mostly hate.)

Ramadan already started so there’s nothing much to do, as well. Malls are open but we usually just go to the mall if we want to eat. Plus, T wants to study for an interview happening by end of the month; so we just went to Youth Hub right after he picked me up from the salon.

Youth Hub is my all time favorite tambayan slash hang out place. I go there if I want to journal, read a book, or just be at peace. It’s mostly filled with students or employees working from home so the vibe is contagious. It makes you want to be productive. Pretty sure it’s also because of the way it was designed. It has glass walls and I’ve read somewhere that if you’re at a place that has more natural lighting, it makes you productive.

Ramadan season means Iftar season.

We had our first Iftar buffet at Sofitel Abu Dhabi. Good food, good service, and a pretty fancy place. I just didn’t have much photos because I was too hungry to even think of taking them. The place was packed, too. I had to call for reservation a day before since they’re always fully booked.

We also went for a full body massage later that night at Tryp Hotel and it was relaxing.

April 24, 2021

Celebrated my friend, Rei’s, birthday dinner at Ritz-Carlton Abu Dhabi. Wow, I’ve been going to luxury 5-star hotels quite a lot lately, haven’t I. Is it okay to say I’m enjoying it?

It was also my first time curling my hair! But I kid you not, I was on the verge of crying for almost two hours before I finish. Crazy. It wasn’t supposed to be curled because I do not know how to curl my hair. I was following a tutorial on YouTube on how to style curtain bangs but for some reason, my hair.. curled, and I have no other choice but to finish what I started. Odds were on my side I guess, it lasted the whole night. Thank God.

April 29, 2021

My dad came to the city again for a visit. We went to Mina since he wanted to check fish shops (again) and it was so funny because Waze directed us to a livestock market.

After a few twist and turns, we found the pet shops and as usual, Dad had his fish shopping.

I also brought Dad to Tryp Hotel for a massage that night and the masseuse was so much better than my first one! Hands down, the best massage I’ve had my whole life. No cap.

April 30, 2021

We have finally reached the end of the month. And guess how we’re ending it? With new pets.

My Dad got two rabbits! I named them Bun bun and Dani, though Dani’s name was Lola /low-lah/ at first. I wanted to name them Bugs & Lola but Bun bun suits him more because he’s sooo cute.

I hope their playpen arrives this week so they can have a bigger place to jump around na. My Dad & I have been watching and reading a lot about rabbits and we’re just so happy. I might also visit Dad’s place soon (which is a 3 hour drive from my place) because of them. Hahaha!

For dinner, my friends and I had seafood at Off The Hook. Bagong sahod sila eh.

Overall, it was a lovely month! I hope everyone also had a great April and may May be as wonderful as we all are. 🤍 It’s almost 3 so I’ll sleep and will proofread this tomorrow. If you find any error, let it be (for now). Hahaha. Good night!

Love, Amielle
