Farfalle Safron

Il Forno Restaurant: Food Review

If you’ve been following me on Instagram, I’m pretty sure – if not almost; is – you’re already sick of me going to that same pasta place every week. Haha. That’s Il Forno – one of my favorite restaurants in Abu Dhabi.

You can’t blame me. Ever since I tried that restaurant, the pasta lover in me just can’t resist it. Aside from having reasonable prices on its menu (compared to others), there’s also a nearby branch from my place, so… ayun. Lamon.

Anyhow, I hope you’re ready to get hungry ’cause I already am.

1. Spaghetti Pearlo. Spaghetti pasta with Italian beef sausage, and broccoli, cooked in pink sauce. I usually add chicken when I order this.

Spaghetti Pearlo (44 AED / 610 PHP)

This is the pasta that started it all. I’m so glad I tried this primarily because if it hadn’t turned out good, I wouldn’t have tried other options from this restaurant’s menu. My second top fave among all!

2. Ravioli al Peperoncino. Ravioli pasta with cheese, cooked with grilled chicken in creamy pink sauce.

This one’s really good, too. The pink sauce, plus the taste of cheese when you have that first bite of ravioli. Mmm!! Amazing. My only con for this is it has less serving and you end up wanting more.

3. Lasagna Il Forno. Layers of lasagna stuffed with tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, Parmesan cheese, beef bolognese, and bechamel sauce, topped with mozzarella cheese.

Hmmm. I think I ordered this twice lang and never ordered again after. Not that I’m saying it’s not good. I’m just not that into lasagnas. And I remember the last time I ordered it, it wasn’t cooked well.

4. Canneloni Ai Carne. Layers of lasagna rolls, ground beef, beef bacon, bechamel sauce, bolognese sauce, and Parmesan cheese, topped with mozzarella cheese.

Same as Lasagna Il Forno, I think I ordered this twice only but I remember Canneloni being better than that. The meat is really good; so is its sauce. (Photo not mine.)

5. Fettuccine Alfredo. Fettucine pasta cooked in alfredo sauce.

White sauce, finally! And the only white sauce I have ever tried from them. Hahaha. I’m still eyeing on another white pasta, don’t worry. This is a never-ending relationship w/ Il Forno until they make me their endorser cheret. (Or at least their Social Media Manager ’cause all their socials are outdated. I mean.. why?! This kind of greatness needs great marketing. So pls hire me.)

I loved this one, too. Ask for additional chicken and it’s perfect. What I also notice with white pasta is you usually need to put Parmesan cheese for it to taste better. Personally, this one doesn’t need it. (Photo not mine.)

6. Farfalle Safron. Farfalle pasta, Italian sausage, chicken, and shrimp in creamy saffron sauce.

Aaaahhh the mother of pasta. My all time fave, my personal favorite! Grabe. There is no other way to describe it but it’s honestly just the best compared to the ones I’ve listed above. It’s more of like a pink sauce also but better than Spaghetti Pearlo’s sauce. It usually comes with onions so I always ask to exclude it when I order, but overall, if you’re not allergic to shrimp.. 11/10. Promise.

7. Margherita Pizza

It’s just okay. I don’t remember it leaving a great mark on me. Haha.

8. Monte Cristo. Mozzarella cheese, tomato sauce, mushroom, black olives, chicken, pepperoni, potato, and cheddar cheese.

I actually forgot that it’s called Monte Cristo and I had to search online for its name. Basically, it’s like pizza.. in a roll. That’s it.

9. Lastly, Potato Wedges.

Potato Wedges (13 AED / 180 PHP)

It’s good. I always pair it with my pasta and they always serve it pretty crunchy. Yum!

And that sums it up!

My orders lately just circle around Spaghetti Pearlo and Farfalle Safron ‘cause those two are honestly my favorites. I don’t even have an issue having it even twice a week. Is it weird? Lol trust me, the first time I discovered this restaurant, I am having it almost 2-3x a week. Haha. :( I also forgot to mention that one order is good for 2 already, hence my “reasonable prices” take on it.

I haven’t been back lately, though. I’m working nightshift and I don’t go to the gym anymore. Not that it’s related to my diet, but because there’s also an Il Forno branch from the mall where I workout. So.. literal after gym, carbs. I’ve been fooling myself for quite a long time now. Hehe

I also made a pact on IG that whoever’s coming to Abu Dhabi will have Il Forno with me, my treat! I’ve treated one friend so far (because I don’t break promises) so you might wanna come pay a visit here. Wink wink

Ending this post with a survey.

Which pasta do you like more – white, red, or pink? And which pasta is the the best one you’ve tried in your life, so far?

Love, Amielle
